Books of 1 Enoch

Before the Flood, Enoch is taken through a visionary cosmos: the oath of the Watchers on Mount Hermon, forbidden knowledge, the giants born from rebellion, the prisons of the fallen stars, the courses of the heavenly lights, and the judgement appointed for the last days.

This edition presents 1 Enoch whole. It is neither a modernized retelling nor an illustrated summary. The R. H. Charles translation runs through all 108 chapters while paintings, celestial diagrams, ornamental frames, and illuminated typography give visual form to the text.

For historical context on what 1 Enoch is, how it survived, and how it relates to the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Letter of Jude, read the complete Book of Enoch guide.

Book of Enoch Summary

From the Watchers to the Last Judgement

The opening chapters announce judgement before turning to the two hundred Watchers who descend on Mount Hermon. Their forbidden teaching and union with human women produce giants and spread violence across the earth. Enoch is called to carry the sentence against the rebels.

The work then moves beyond the familiar fallen-angel story. Enoch travels through places of confinement and judgement, receives visions of the righteous and the Elect One, learns the courses of the heavenly lights, witnesses history through symbolic animals, and delivers warnings and hope to later generations.

How to Read the Edition

Read in Order, Then Return by Theme

First-time readers should begin at chapter 1 and continue through all five books. That preserves the movement from cosmic rebellion to heavenly order, symbolic history, ethics, and final judgement.

On a second reading, follow a theme: the Watchers and Azazel in chapters 6-16; Enoch's journeys in chapters 17-36; the Parables and Son of Man in chapters 37-71; celestial time in chapters 72-82; or the Animal Apocalypse in chapters 83-90.
